VIES is the abbreviation of VAT Information Exchange System.
VIES is a search engine run by the European Commission that looks up VAT numbers in the databases of all the EU Member States. The VIES database is the only official source for VAT numbers of organisations located within the European Union and are VAT liable.
Easybox uses the VIES database to import the available data (e.g. organisation name, registered office, ...) when adding a connection (e.g. customer, supplier, ...) based on the VAT number. When you can add a connection with a VAT number via VIES, you are sure of the validity of this organisation.
